How to Apply: the Online Application Portal

In 2019, JET Programme Canada switched to a paperless online application process. Through the Online Application Portal you will manage and submit your application. Should you have any questions or encounter any issues, you can contact the National JET Desk through the portal’s JET Inbox. After you submit your application, you will be able to check the status of your application in the portal.

All Canadian applications for the JET Programme must be submitted through the Online Application Portal. It is open to new applicants during the fall application period only. If you are interested in receiving an email when the new application period starts, please sign up herePlease ensure you are eligible before creating an applicant profile.

The application stage is handled by the National JET Desk at the Embassy of Japan. Successful applicants are notified of their results and then regional JET Desks handle the interview stage, final result notifications, training, and departure.

Application Package

The JET Application Package and Guidelines will be provided in the Online Application Portal of this website during the fall application period. We only accept applications submitted in this way. We do not accept resumes or other documents other than those outlined in the Application Guidelines. 

The application process requires that all documents be submitted to the National JET Desk via the online portal. Below is a list of the documents that are part of the JET Programme application. Guidelines for these documents will be provided through the online portal and should be consulted carefully before obtaining said documents.

You can view a copy of the 2017 application form here (REFERENCE ONLY). We only accept applications started in the Online Application Portal of this website during the fall application period.

PoCC

Proof of Canadian Citizenship

A copy of your Canadian Passport (info and signature page). Should your passport expire prior to March 1st, 2024, or should you not own a Canadian passport at the time of application, an Additional Proof of Citizenship such as Birth Certificate or Citizenship Card/Certificate is required.

Degree

Copy of Degree or Proof of Expected Graduation

If you are in your final year of study, your university can issue a letter stating the date of your expected graduation

Official Transcript

Official Transcripts

Official transcripts for all courses taken to date at your undergraduate college, university, and post-graduate institutions (if applicable). This includes ones outside of Canada. Supporting documents are not required for CEGEP.

Reference Biz Card

Two Letters of Reference

Reference letters should be academic or professional and can be written in English, French or Japanese. Do NOT request reference letters without providing your referees our Reference Letter Guidelines, available in the Application Portal during the fall application period.

Essay

A two-page double-spaced essay outlining your motivation and qualifications to participate on the JET Programme.

Supplemental Documents

Criminal Record Check

Criminal Record Check

Applicants are only required to submit this at the application stage if they wish to be considered for Early Departure. Guidelines for acceptable Record Checks will be provided through the portal.

Certificate of Health

This form is available through the portal. Applicants are only required to submit this at the application stage if they wish to be considered for Early Departure.

Certificate

Certifications

If you have a teaching certificate or Japanese Language certificate, you can include it in your application.

SoP

Statement of Physician

This form is available through the online portal. Applicants are required to obtain one for certain circumstances. Guidelines on whether you require one or not will be provided on the online portal.

Unofficial Transcript

Translations

Documents in a language other than English, or Japanese, may require a translation. Translations can be unofficial, done by yourself or a third party. Guidelines on what documents require translations will be provided through the online portal.

Any document that is not required or is not a listed supplemental document should not be included. This includes, but is not limited to, resumes, head shots, other photographs, extra letters of recommendation, letters of explanation, extra statements, etc.
